Ask Dr. Carla: Tips for Mothers When Pre-Teen Daughters Begin to Test Your Authority

Happy Mother’s Day!

I hope you had an amazing day being honored and/or honoring the mothers, grandmothers, Godmothers, aunts, mother figures, and special women who are no longer with us who have loved, nurtured and cared for you.

Over the years, I have learned so much through my work as a speaker, health educator, researcher, girl advocate and coach that I would like to share with you about how to help girls become happy, healthy and confident. I have also had the opportunity to talk to countless parents and daughters about many issues that girls face as they navigate through the teen years. I am so excited to share this information with my readers through my new blog series featuring tips for parents, girl-serving professionals and teen girls!!! I hope that my blog will reach parents, concerned adults and girls around the world — especially those who are unable to coach with me or attend my live speaking events.

In today’s first episode of “Ask Dr. Carla,” I am interviewed by radio host Jennifer Keitt (The Jennifer Keitt Show, Kiss 104, Atlanta) about what mothers can do when their pre-teen daughters begin to test their authority. I hope you enjoy the video clip!

I would love to hear your thoughts!

  • Are you noticing changes in your pre-teen daughter as she begins to express her desire to become more independent?
  • What parenting strategies work best for you when your daughter tests your authority?
