Dr. Carla Stokes was inducted into Outstanding Atlanta in recognition of her leadership, professional accomplishments, civic engagement, and service to the Atlanta community. As the founder and Executive Director of Helping Our Teen Girls In Real Life Situations (HOTGIRLS)®, an award-winning 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the health and well-being of Black young women and girls through leadership development, positive youth development, health education, youth-based participatory action research, peer mentoring, service learning, and community engagement, Dr. Carla was one of ten leaders selected for this distinguished honor.

At the induction ceremony, Dr. Carla was introduced by HOTGIRLS board member and Spelman College assistant professor Na’Taki Osborne Jelks (Outstanding Atlanta Class of 2000).

About Outstanding Atlanta

Outstanding Atlanta was founded in 1968 to recognize young professionals whose leadership, accomplishments, and service have strengthened the Atlanta community. Each year, ten professionals are inducted into this distinguished organization in recognition of exemplary leadership and service. As an Outstanding Atlanta honoree, Dr. Carla joined a network of civic, business, nonprofit, and government leaders dedicated to advancing the Atlanta community through continued leadership and service.

Carla Stokes, PhD, MPH, is a pioneering educator and scholar whose work helped lay the foundation for digital girlhood studies and introduced innovative methods for integrating hip hop culture and the internet into health education.
