Dr. Carla joined distinguished scholars, civil rights leaders, and advocates, including Dr. Kimberlé Crenshaw, Co-Founder & Executive Director of the African American Policy Forum; Dr. Beverly Guy-Sheftall, Founding Director of the Women’s Research and Resource Center at Spelman College; and Deborah Richardson, Executive Vice President of the National Center for Civil and Human Rights, to discuss policies and practices to support the success and achievement of Black girls.
As an invited speaker, she provided testimony based on her research and leadership as Founder and Executive Director of HOTGIRLS, Inc. Convened by the National Women’s Law Center, the African American Policy Forum, the Women’s Research and Resource Center at Spelman College, the Multi-Agency Alliance for Children, the Atlanta Legal Aid Society, and Helping Our Teen Girls In Real Life Situations, Inc. (HOTGIRLS)®, the event brought together experts to examine the educational inequities, disproportionate school discipline, and systemic barriers affecting Black girls and their academic success.
