Dr. Carla delivered a keynote presentation on social media and the impact of sexualization on girls’ health and safety to more than 400 educators, social workers, parents, and law enforcement professionals at the 12th Annual Alabama Child Safety Conference in Decatur, Alabama.
She also presented a workshop on how educators and girl-serving professionals can use hip hop and popular culture to educate girls. During the workshop, Dr. Carla shared lessons learned from Helping Our Teen Girls In Real Life Situations, Inc. (HOTGIRLS)® media literacy programs and workshops and incorporated relevant examples from social media, hip hop culture, magazines, and reality TV shows.
